This movement started in the X-Men comics (issue 100), basically a very strong superhero throws the other like a ball. The reason varies between being because with the great strength of the character your companion will travel very fast through the air and the attack will be a mixture of the strength of his normal attack with the strength of the hero who threw him; and the idea being that the character needs to get to a high place where the opponent is. Since then, several Marvel heroes have used the move.
- Appears in Marvel: Ultimate Alliance, where the Fastball Special can be performed by the Thing, Colossus, the Hulk, Luke Cage or Captain America. Also, aside from Wolverine, Mr. Fantastic can be thrown too, but only when using his "Pinball" ability (in which Reed curls himself up into a ball).
- In The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, in the episode "New Avengers", Wolverine performs this move with the help of Thing.
- In the trailer for the video game Marvel SUper Hero Squad Online, Hulk and Wolverine use this move to take down the Sentinels.
- In the Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H. animated series episode "Wendigo Apocalypse", , at the climax of the story Hulk throws Wolverine against Wendigo's amulet saying "Fastball Special".
- In Hulk and the Agents of S.M.A.S.H., throughout the series (in episode 16 of season two), the Hulks use a their own variation, used by anyone of them who throws A-Bomb, which they called the Smashball Special.
- In the Ultimate Spider-Man cartoon, in the episode "Man-Wolf" Spider-Man appears that they enjoy that in the low gravity of the moon, even he can throw White Tigress and Iron Fist to perform the Fastball Special.
