Xemnu the Living Hulk also known as Xemnu the Living Titan, or the Hulk is an alien villain from Marvel Comics, created by Jack Kirby. He is the original Marvel character to bare the Hulk moniker, and is an enemy of Bruce Banner's Hulk, She-Hulk and the Defenders.
Character history[]
Origins[]
Xemnu is an alien being with cybernetic parts, taken from his planet and imprisoned in, "Exile World". He escaped and highjacked a ship to escape to Earth where his unconscious body was recovered from the Blacktree Swamp by electrician Joe Harper. Harper revived Xemnu by fixing his electrical parts and the awakened Xemnu then planned on using hypnotic rays shot from his eyes to enslave humanity and build a new spaceship which would destroy all of the Earth to launch back at his home-world. Xemnu took control of the entire human race though spared Harper out of thanks, only for Harper to sabotage Xemnu's spaceship and send the Hulk hurdling into the sun, freeing humanity though nobody but Harper remembered the events.
Xemnu returned by using telekinesis to have a meteor knock his ship back into Earth's orbit. Xemnu once again tried to enslave humanity but was confronted again by Joe Harper. Xemnu attempted to telekinetically rip Harper's atoms apart, only for Harper to pull out a mirror and temporarily disintegrate Xemnu instead.
Fighting the Defenders[]
Xemnu's disintegrated atoms reformed on his home planet, only to find his species killed by disease. Xemnu then returned to Earth in Marvel Feature #3 (1972) where he took control of the body of astronaut Richmond Wagner. Using the possessed Wagner as his puppet, Xemnu had Wagner start a space themed children's show called, "Astro-Nuts" which featured Xemnu as its fluffy and loveable mascot. Xemnu's plan was to use the show to abduct a large amount of human children and bring them back to his planet to mutate into members of his own species. These plans were foiled by the Defenders: Namor, Doctor Strange and the Hulk with Hulk beating Xemnu in a fight.
Xemnu disintegrated his body and travelled to the small town of Plucketville where he possessed the mayor Amos Moses. Xemnu planned on abducting the townsfolk of Plucketville to turn into members of his species and repopulate his world. The Hulk happened upon the town at which point Xemnu used telekinesis to incapacitate him, but not before Hulk sent a mental signal to call in the Defenders Doctor Strange and Valkyrie to save him and the townsfolk. Xemnu attempted to flee but Hulk threw the alien's spaceship at him, blowing them both up.
Fighting the Hulk[]
In The Incredible Hulk Annual #5 (1976), Xemnu was working out of an underwater laboratory in a lake of Colorado. When Xemnu detected the Incredible Hulk nearby, he created replicas of five giant monsters whom also originated from Marvel's science-fiction anthologies including: The Blip, Diablo, Goom, Groot and Taboo. When Hulk defeated the monsters, Xemnu imprisoned Hulk in his underwater laboratory where Hulk broke free causing the two Hulks to fight. The fight destroyed Xemnu's lab before the two rose the to surface and Xemnu escaped.
Fighting She-Hulk[]
In Sensational She-Hulk #6-7 (1989), a reassembled Xemnu again plotted on reproducing his home-world not only by abducting Earth's children, but also by transforming She-Hulk into a member of his species to breed with. After taking control of the space-ship cab of Ulysses Archer, Xemnu met up with She-Hulk at the Star Stop Diner in space. Xemnu was then defeated in a fight and given to Big Enilwen who believed he was a teddy bear, which she collected. After hypnotizing Big Enilwen into freeing him, he planned on selling She-Hulk into slavery only to be knocked unconscious via monkey-wrench by She-Hulk's ally Blonde Phantom.
Fighting Red Hulk[]
In Hulk Vol 2 #30 (2011), Xemnu created a clone of Grey Hulk called, "Kluh" to replace Bruce Banner. Xemnu and Kluh were fought by Red Hulk, who was then merged by the Impossible Man with Banner's Hulk to become the Composite Hulk. In Uncanny X-Men Vol 2 #9 (2012), he was captured by S.W.O.R.D. before escaping and rampaging through Las Vegas, only to be stopped by the joined forces of Red Hulk with Iron Man, Emma Frost, and Colossus.
